Where It Began
Well, my world at least...
My name is Kahli, I live in Alaska and recently became vegetarian. I found my love for juice when living in Fairbanks and frequenting Go Wild Juicery. When I moved to Wasilla in November of 2017, I quickly learned the sad truth that there was no such place in the Valley. I'd known there were people who had found decent juicers at their local Value Village, so I had hopes to have similar luck. It took me a while to make it over there, in the meantime I was paying a ridiculous amount of money for bottled juices in the store; ones that I could easily read the ingredient list to make sure it was just juice.
Once I finally decided I'd go to VV and hunt for a juicer, I was skeptical about whether or not I'd actually find one. While hunting the aisles, my eyes stopped on a rather large, outdated looking "Juiceman JR" and knew I'd hit the jackpot. There was a bag attached to the juicer, filled with what looked like attachments. I grabbed what I hoped would be the end of my search, saw that it was only $8, and happily walked to the register. My next stop was the store for all of the produce I would soon turn into the happiest drinks of my life.
I'd texted my friend who worked at the Juicery in Fairbanks and asked for their recipe for one of my favorite juices. "Kickstart" was made up of beets, carrots, an apple, and a lemon. Seemed easy enough! Once I got home and unpackaged my new investment, which included a cassette tape with tips on juicing(yes, that's how old this thing is!), I started washing, slicing, and dicing my beets and apples. Once The Juiceman JR turned on, I knew right away it was going to work like a dream. It was in such good condition for being so old, I'm not even sure the previous owner ever used it.
I was a little skeptical on how it would taste at first, you know how things are always better when someone else makes it for you. Rest assured, my very own Kickstart juice was music to my tastebuds and I don't think I'll ever look back. The next step is to introduce juicing to the town of Wasilla and maybe one day open my own little juicery. Until then....Happy sipping
